Soundscape Composition
For this assignment, I was tasked with recording a soundscape. The thought of this was daunting to me, as I spent my time outside of school in one of two places, either at home, or at work. I started tossing the project around in my head, and the idea finally came to me one day at work. After tinting 4 gallons in a row, I took a second to really listen to what happened during my shift. Especially in an opening shift, where I had to walk in, past a doorbell, open an insanely loud cash drawer, but also tint all on my own.
In my soundscape, I captured what me and my coworkers call the 'cacophony,' or the repetitive, loud, and sometimes grating sounds that we hear everyday, while we are working. While we may not be using this term correctly, it brings us a sense of comfort, and humour, in a sometimes long and boring day.
I hope that you enjoy, but also spend a few minutes in my shoes, confused and bumbling around, as the noises seem to never stop, except for a few rare minutes.

Thank you!
What I choose to do with it is just that, my choice.
But it only lasts for a second. As that damned phone rings again.

A photo of our colour wall. Its organization and simple patterns familiar to me, but confusing to some.

Our oil based tinter. Louder than the water based, and not featured in my composition, but a towering figure when approached from below.

A simple gallon, tinted to a neutral light pink for a customer.

The rolling rack. The holder of all bases, and impossible to stock sometimes.
